Computer & Wifi
SUMMARY
All eight branch libraries have public access computers with printing and access to the Internet for free. We also offer free indoor and outdoor public WiFi.
PUBLIC WiFi
All eight branches and our administrative offices have free public wireless access points available 24/7/365.
Our available networks are:
IADL_LIBRARY - no password
IADL_LIBRARY_P - password: librariesyes
eduroam - credentials provided by your institution
IADL_LIB - see staff for access
Note: IADL_LIBRARY and IADL_LIBRARY_P have guest restrictions. Guest restrictions mean that clients have Internet access only, IPv4 addresses only, and no device sharing. IPv4 and IPv6 refer to Internet Protocol version 4 and version 6. Printing is not available on IADL_LIBRARY or IADL_LIBRARY_P. Some access points may go down for maintenance, upgrades or a reboot, and typically take fifteen minutes before coming back up.
PUBLIC COMPUTERS
Our public computers are first come, first served and no library card is required. Patrons are not allowed to make changes to the hardware or software of our public computers.
Our computers all run the Microsoft Windows 11 Professional operating system. Regardless, they are all configured with a standardized Windows desktop with a Windows 7-style Start Menu and a suite of standard application software to facilitate basic office productivity, multimedia, web browsing and communications. Our public computers are not equipped with webcams or headsets, but you can speak to our staff if you have any questions or requests.
The Catalog computers are meant to only run the Firefox web browser but have a suite of other software that the public is welcome to explore. Printing is not permitted from these systems.
At sites equipped with Envisionware PCReservation and LPTOne, public computers have a time management client that gives a time limit of up to 2 hours per patron at a computer. If a patron does not have a library card, staff is able to print a guest pass. Non-Envisionware sites have similar time limits but are managed by our staff.
As an added security and privacy feature, all public computers running Windows have DeepFreeze Enterprise installed. This software wipes all activity and reverts any changes made to the system upon shutdown or reboot. Installation of additional software is not permitted.
There is the ability to send pop-up messages to public PCs using either the PCReservation Management Console or from the DeepFreeze Console. Patrons who violate our terms of use can be warned and their sessions ended by staff if those warnings are ignored.
Persons under the age of 18 are required to have a policy form signed by a parent or legal guardian on file at the branch in order to use a computer. All persons under the age of 12 are required to have a parent, legal guardian, or the person noted on the policy form sitting with them at the computer at all times.
